Hurry Up--And Wait

As I'm standing there watering my garden (see pics below), I think about how long ago we planted it. It was early May when James dug out the rocks, picked out all the weeds and planted those little seeds in the ground. It seemed forever until anything even came out of the ground (of course, the weeds, they were sprouting like a teenage boy) I felt like if I just stared at those little seeds long enough, they would sprout into these huge plants..and I waited...and waited..and...2 months later, it worked!! We have huge leaves, bursting with greenery, and exploding with Zucchini and little pumpkins.

It's amazing how God works on his own time table. The weeds grow like...well, weeds but the plants grew at their own speed. I am not going to claim to be a botanist but I can imagine that it takes a little more time to develop such sturdy and bountiful plants such as these. I think that is also true with us. God grows us on his own timetable. With the FSO test not going the way we thought, and the possibility of us venturing overseas seeming farther away than we had originally hoped, we have a bit more waiting to do. As much as we both have the passion and ability to "declare his glory among the nations" (Ps 96:3), God is keeping us where we are at for the time being. Neither of us know what is to come or where we will go. We are truly blessed to have the opportunity and ability to go anywhere in the world we are called.

I am not known to be a patient person, at all, but one thing I must learn to be patient about is God's timing. And just like our plants, God is slowly shaping us into sturdy, bountiful people who are "like a tree planted by streams of water" (Ps 1:3); strong in our faith. So whatever God has planned for us for the future, we are to focus on now, and what he is teaching us at this moment; not being impatient but being ever faithful and being like clay for our amazing potter. So when our time comes, we can go out into the world and declare his name. But for now...I think I'll pick a zucchini and make it for dinner.
