German Bowl Part 6 - Mosey down the Mosel

This past weekend we had the wonderful pleasure of taking a tour of German wine country. We took a bus into Bernkastel, a cute little town on the banks of the Mosel River, and got to spend a few hours walking around, enjoying the views, and eating the delicious food (have you noticed a theme, there is a LOT of food out here!).

The next part of our tour was a Mosel boat cruise. We got to see cute little villages along the river, vineyards as far as the eye can see, and we even got to take a Lock to get up the river! There is something so peaceful and reflective about being on a river boat. The water glides across the sides, there is not swaying or bouncing, and you can see all around. I got to think about God's beautiful country and how long these places have been here. Being in Europe has made me realize more and more that there is such a HUGE world out there and I am just a small part of it. What a humbling thing to be around historic sites, homes built before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and to see that each one of these villages has a small church that represents the timeless devotion to our creator.

The last part of our journey was a wonderful dinner and wine tasting with a great German family. This family has been making wine for many generations and it is truly a family business. The owner has his two daughters serving dinner while his wife keeps bringing out trays of amazing Au gratin potatoes and he entertains guests and serves wine.

This trip was a great way to get familiar with Mosel wine country-and there is a lot of it! The Mosel area is just another example of God's amazing creation and the bountiful blessings he has bestowed on us.

John 2:7-10
Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so,  and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
