Wow! I cannot believe it has been two weeks since my last post! A lot has happened and we are moving at full-speed-mode now. We found a place to rent and are moving in a week and a half. I also started my job this week and am still adjusting to the whole get-up-a-go-to-work thing. We have been staying a bit closer to the area the past couple of weeks but still loving to explore.
This past weekend we took our first trip down to Ramstein Air Base. It is just a short drive and we are in what we like to call, "Little America." The leaves (and weather) are changing here so the drive was so beautiful. There are windmills everywhere you go in Germany and I still find them completely fascinating.
There is everything you could possibly need at Ramstein like a Chili's, a mall, and many other American luxuries. We took a nice long walk through the mall where we bought a few things and enjoyed an American-Italian lunch at Macaroni Grill. They also have a lot of shops with fun German cultural things like Lederhosen, nutcrackers, and coo coo clocks.
We ended our trip with a quick drive to a nearby village that has a go-cart racing track. The drive there was beautiful until we ended up in a creepy industrial part of town. I've noticed in Europe that a lot of places that we go to seem a little odd in the setup or location. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that everything here is so old but still in such good condition. Instead of tearing everything down and starting from scratch, they just building into whatever is already there. Not only does it give everything unique character but each building has it's own story. The go-carts were nothing like I've ever driven before. Let's just say that you have to use the brake pedal a lot because they like to GO. Oh, and we got to wear really sexy headgear too!
We spent the rest of the weekend relaxing and working on stuff around the house (and James did homework as usual, poor guy). We did get to celebrate my nephew, Mason's, third birthday and even went to his party via Skype with our very own costumes (what? I don't have much to work with here!).
On Monday, I got to spend some time with a great group of girls (ooo, nice alliteration!). We went to Trier which is so beautiful and peaceful on German holidays! We had an amazing lunch but the best part was a wine probe. We tried 8 types of local German wines and I liked all of them, especially after about the 5th one...
It has been really nice to take a few low-key trips closer to our local area. We look forward to learning more about the beautiful country we live in as well as Europe as a whole. What an amazing adventure God has put in front of us!!
Beautiful photos!! Wish we could have been there to wine taste with you guys. It was fun last time! - J&R
