Cochem, Castle, and Concessions

Do you ever have those times when you are rocking out in your car and then all of a sudden you are pulling into your driveway? You were so into your music and didn't realize how much time had passed. That's how it feels here. We are experiencing so much and seeing new things and enjoying our routines that we suddenly realize that it's already daylight savings time. As we travel (he he) down our travel wish list, we add more than we take away. There is an entire world of travel opportunities and we are in such a central location that its hard not to want to go everywhere. We've now talked about adding Prague, Turkey, Israel, and many others to our travel wish list. We've already been blessed to experience so much but look forward to a summer filled with adventure and amazement. God has created such a diverse world full of so many different cultures and experiences. And the HISTORY that we have been able to explore is fantastic! It is so special to visit places that kings and rulers lived in thousands of years ago.

A few weekends ago we got to explore the scenic village of Cochem. It is another fantastic spot situated on the Mosel river, (oh and it was a sunny, warm day on top of everything). Vineyards up and down the hills, great food, a cute little Easter market, and, of course, the HUGE castle situated ominously on top of the hill. When we drove down into the town, the view of the castle was spectacular. It was breathtaking to see it hover over the village.

We enjoyed wandering around the cute little Easter Market where they were selling trinkets and CONCESSIONS! My favorite thing ever! Did I ever mention I have Concession-Tourettes? I like to yell out and then crave random foods that people are carrying around...Nachos! ....CORNDOG!! .... sssssnowcone! ....Anyways, that's a story for another time.

After chasing after random old ladies and innocent children holding cotton candy and crepes, we decided to hike up the hill to the castle. We were told the hike was looong, but it was maybe only a 30 minute incline. Since it was such a beautiful day and the castle view was amazing the walk seemed like nothing.

We took a tour through the castle and learn all about how it was originally built in the 1200's (or 1300 or 1400, we're not good at remembering but it was OLD). It was destroyed over the years but in the 1800's some rich guy had it rebuilt to its original glory and it was really cool to go through all of the immaculately decorated rooms. The view from the top was spectacular!

The poor monks were only allowed to have this much wine per day...
We wrapped up our day with a peaceful dinner by the river and planned on coming back again soon. Thanks Tyler and Julie for a great trip!
