Cat-Pellant: DIY, Free, Natural Garden & Yard Cat Repellant

We have a cat probelm at our house. The prior owner used to feed the cats and left little water bowls under the deck for them...yuck! We have a huge super soaker that we spray them with if we can get to them in time, but it still doesnt keep them out of our garden and mulch! Disgusting! You can buy different types of Cat & Dog B Gone but I would rather not spend $10 for a little can.

Here is a recipe for Cat-Pellant that we have used in the past and it works great! It is safe for your plants, kids, and other animals. It basically keeps cats (and some other animals) away from your garden areas. (Who wants to find a kitty tootsie roll near their summer squash!?) You can use basic houshold ingredients that are safe to eat!

Start with vinegar (any kind works, I buy two huge jugs at Sam's for $3.50), add garlic (powder, minced, or smashed up cloves), red pepper flakes (the kind you put on pizza), and I add cayenne pepper for good measure. Add water and put into a plast

ic container with a lid. Shake (or mix) and let sit covered outside in the sun for 1-2 weeks (the longer, the better). Then shake and pour around areas you don't want kitties in. Make a perimiter around the garden rather than pouring directly on plants. The cats won't want to cross the line, so they won't get into your garden.

Of course, once it rains several times or after a month or so, I do it again. It is a super cheap and easy way to keep kitties out!

Cat-Pellant Recipe

1 Part Vinegar (any kind, I use distilled white)
3 Parts Water
Handful garlic cloves, powder, or minced
Handful Red Pepper Flakes
Handful Cayenne Pepper (Don't actually put in your hand!)

Put in plastic container, shake, set in sun for 1-2 weeks and apply in perimeter around garden areas!
